Getting started

Working offline

What Steplane does when the connection drops, and why editing pauses.

Steplane keeps a copy of your organization's processes on your device and syncs it live: changes go both ways straight away. When the connection isn't live, the bottom of the sidebar says so:

  • Connecting…: the connection is being set up or has dropped for a moment. Changes you make are kept and sent as soon as it's back.
  • Offline: Steplane couldn't reach the server for about a minute, or your sign-in needs renewing.

While you're offline

  • Reading works. Everything you've opened on this device is still there: the landscape, process pages, diagrams and the history you've looked at. A banner above the page says when the data was last live.
  • Editing is paused. Fields and buttons that change something are greyed out, so you never type work that can't be saved. They come back on their own when the connection does.
  • Try again in the banner reconnects right away instead of waiting for the next automatic attempt. Steplane also tries by itself every few seconds.

A page you haven't opened on this device before can't be shown offline; Steplane says so and offers to try again.

Short interruptions happen, for example during updates or on a poor mobile connection. If you're offline for longer while your internet works, the service may be down; your administrator can tell you more.
