Getting started

Signing in

Signing in with your email address and a one-time code. No passwords.

Steplane has no passwords. You sign in with your work email address and a code we send to it.

  1. Go to steplane.app, enter your work email and choose Continue with email. If you're new, this also creates your account.
  2. We send you an email with a 6-digit code and a link. Either:
    • type the code on the sign-in page, or
    • open the link and choose Continue.
  3. You're signed in, on this device, for 30 days of use.

Good to know

  • A code works once and expires after 10 minutes. After 5 wrong tries it stops working; ask for a new one with Send a new code.
  • The link asks you to choose Continue on purpose. Some company email systems open links automatically to scan them, and a link that signed you in straight away would be used up before you clicked it.
  • On a phone, if the link opens in the browser instead of the app, type the code in the app instead.
  • You can ask for at most 5 codes in 15 minutes for one email address, so nobody can flood your inbox.
  • Didn't get the email? Check your spam folder, and that the address is right. The email comes from login@steplane.app.
  • Log out is in the menu under your name, at the bottom of the sidebar.

Your account and sessions

Your own settings are in Settings, under Your account. The menu under your name, at the bottom of the sidebar, opens them too.

Profile

The name others see, for example as a process owner or in the history. Your email address is how you sign in.

Email notifications

Under Notifications. Steplane emails you when something needs you: a change waiting for your approval, new findings in a change project about a process you own, a project you own going live within three days, its linked Linear project being completed or cancelled, and reviews that are due. You get one email per organization when there's something new, never the same item twice. Choose Don't email me to turn them off; the inbox still shows everything.

Sessions

Every browser and device you're signed in on, with where it signed in (city and country), when, and when it was last active. The one you're using is marked This device. Choose Log out next to a session you don't recognise, or Log out of all other sessions.

AI apps and API keys

The AI assistants you've allowed to use Steplane as you, and your personal API keys. See Connecting Claude.

An admin of your organization can also sign you out everywhere, for example if you've lost a laptop. You can sign in again straight away.

Deleting your account

Settings → Profile → Delete account removes your personal data from Steplane: your name, email address, sign-ins, sessions, API keys, connected apps and your memberships. Steplane emails you a code to confirm, signs you out everywhere, clears what it kept on this device, and sends you a receipt.

What stays, and why: processes and their history belong to your organizations, and auditors rely on that history. Changes and approvals you made stay in it, shown as made by Former member, without your name or email. Processes you owned no longer have an owner, so they show up in the gap checks until someone takes them over.

If you're the only owner of an organization, Steplane asks you first to make someone else owner (Settings → Members) or to delete the organization (see Deleting an organization), so no organization is left without an owner.

You can sign up again later with the same address; it starts as a new, empty account. Claude can tell you how this works, but it can't delete your account: only you can, in Steplane.
